Following the latest machinery of government changes there has been some change of ministerial portfolios in DCMS. It has been formally announced that Julia Lopez MP (Hornchurch and Upminister) will be taking on responsibility for tourism alongside media and creative industries and also alongside responsibilities for data and digital infrastructure in the newly formed Department for Science, Innovation and Technology. She’ll have her hands full! The Minister has been with DCMS since September 2021, although this is the first time she will have the tourism portfolio.
It is worth pointing out that having Media; All event actors (both outdoor and business) and Creative Industries under one Minister could be a significant benefit as the Events Industry has long held the view that apart from contributing to the visitor economy it is as much part of the communications and creative sectors, for which the new Minister is responsible.
Representatives from UKEVENTS will be meeting the Minister later this month and highlighting the role events play across all sectors of the economy.
